What is a solid state disk?

A solid state disk is a storage device that primarily stores data on solid state electronic chips rather than the magnetic platters used by traditional hard drives.

Solid state disks can be used just like traditional hard drives, but they are generally much faster than even the fastest hard drives, especially with lots of scattered data.

Solid state disks can use Flash memory or RAM to store data; Texas Memory Systems sells both kinds.
